Tania James

Tania James is a committed community servant leader. She has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and has held several leadership positions in Washtenaw County, Out-Wayne County and Detroit.

Since 2018, Tania James served as the Provider Network Manager (Housing) at Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN), where she was responsible for managing HUD Continuum of Care permanent supportive housing grants and housing assistance contracts. Some of her previous positions include management and director-level roles with oversight of housing and emergency shelter programs for individuals, families and youth experiencing homelessness.

Tania received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work, a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Tania has received many awards for her dedicated community service work and is a recent recipient of the ZEAL Credit Union “Hard-Working American – Lend A Hand” award.

She has also received other awards which includes:

·         “Woman of the Year” - Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Zeta Nu Zeta – (2013)

From 2004-2020, Tania founded & served as the Executive Director of Sisters Who Are Powerful (SWAP), a non-profit organization, which empowers women and girls to reach their full potential and improve their quality of life.

She currently serves as the Board Secretary for the Friends of the Leanna Hicks Public Library Board and once served as a Commissioner for the City of Inkster Parks & Recreation Commission. She is a member of the Western Wayne NAACP and is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., a community-conscious, action-oriented organization.

Tania is married to her husband Willie of 20 years and has two amazing children, Juwan and Janae. She also has a cute fur-baby, Adora Belle, who joined the family in 2020.

Her hobbies include volunteering, mentoring, event planning, traveling, going to concerts, playing with her dog, and watching funny videos

Her mission in life is to empower others to achieve their life goals, establish and maintain positive community relationships and to be a resource of information to those in need.
